Product Safety & Care

Helpful information for your next project and your order.

Our catalog includes powered garden tools, sharp accessories, rechargeable products, household tools and outdoor deterrents. Read the exact product manual, packaging and warnings before use. This page provides general precautions and does not replace model-specific instructions.

Before first use

  • Confirm the model and inspect the product, power lead, battery, charger and accessories for damage.
  • Complete any required assembly, adjustment and safety checks in the manual.
  • Use suitable protective equipment and keep bystanders, children and pets clear of the work area.
  • Stop if the instructions, compatibility or intended use are unclear and ask for help before operation.

Cutting equipment and attachments

Use only blades, chains, bars, guards and other parts explicitly compatible with the exact tool. A “universal” description does not mean an attachment is safe on every machine. Disconnect the power source before adjustment, cleaning or changing an attachment, as directed by the manual. Never bypass a guard or safety mechanism.

Batteries and chargers

Use the specified battery and charger combination. Do not assume products are interchangeable because their nominal voltage or connector looks similar. Follow charging, temperature and storage instructions. Do not charge or use a battery that is swollen, leaking, damaged, unusually hot or giving off an unusual smell. Keep batteries away from fire and dispose of them through suitable local collection services.

Fuel-powered equipment

Follow the model-specific fuel and oil instructions. Do not infer a mixing ratio from another model. Operate combustion equipment only in a suitable outdoor location away from enclosed spaces and ignition sources. Follow the manual for safe cooling, refueling, storage and transport.

Water and weather exposure

A listing's water-resistance description does not mean every part can be submerged or exposed indefinitely. Follow the stated rating and manual. Protect chargers and electrical connections as directed, and dry or store equipment according to the product instructions.

Outdoor deterrents and repellents

Placement, charging, sunlight, nearby obstacles and animal behavior can affect deterrent performance. Do not position a device where it creates a hazard or unreasonable disturbance. Follow the label for repellent pouches and other substances, keep them away from children and pets, and avoid ingestion or contact with eyes and skin. “Natural” does not mean risk-free. Seek appropriate medical or veterinary advice if exposure causes concern.

Cleaning, storage and disposal

Follow the manual for cleaning and maintenance. Disconnect power first where directed. Allow wet items to dry before storage, protect sharp parts and store products out of reach of children. Observe local requirements for batteries, electronics and chemical products.

Report a safety concern

Stop using the affected item and contact us with the product model, order number and a description. Do not undertake unsafe testing or ship a damaged battery or fuel-containing equipment without suitable instructions.
